chapter 7

Chapter Seven

Must Do Questions: Which people in the group are starting to stand out as leaders, is this surprising? Why/why not?kevin, homer it's kind of surprising because they weren't shybut they weren't really leaders they just join the group unlessthey think they need to take charge
Do you think that taking Kevin’s dog Flip to Corries house was a mistake? Explain your thoughts.yes because Flip could've got hurt and it would've been hardon bikes What does Lee mean when he says ‘we might have to make some ugly choices?’like if something happens they may have to leave the dog alone
How is Ellie’s image of Kevin changing in this chapter?thinks he's more of a leaderIs the decision to split into smaller groups a wise one? Give reasonsyes because when they decided to split one group would be able to check the house and the other observe some area. Why is it that Elli’s group decides to act ‘illogically’ and survey the Showgrounds together? because they know theirs soldiers and stuff and they know they'll bestronger together. Why does the idea of a female soldier surprise Ellie?because there's a higher chance of males being soldiers than females. If your parents were captured in a situation like this, would they have been ‘sensible’, or would there have been violence?in between my parents would have had a strategy but if someone started shooting they would shoot back. How is Ellie ‘transformed’ once she steps out from behind a tree near the Showgrounds? she takes charge.Ellie and Kevin’s quick-thinking allowed them to turn a ride-on lawnmower into a bomb. Was this moral behaviour? Did they do the right thing, or should they have surrendered themselves?Predict what you think has happened to Lee and Robyn.it was the right thing because otherwards the soldiers would've probably shot them.

  1. She was worried

  1. How does she think the others will react to her story when she tells it?
They will be scared of her because it was all her plan

  1. How do they actually react? Why?
I felt that my life was permanently damaged that I could never be normal again that the rest of my life would just be a shell.

  1. Homer says, “This is war now, normal rules don’t apply.. They’re the ones who tore up the rule book, not us”” What does this say about his character? What do you think of he validity of his opinions?
That he hate that this is happening. His opticians are good

  1. Fi talks about the ‘shadows’, during their reconnaissance. What are these shadows and what are the implications due to their existence?
Their people and she think they are running away

  1. What pieces of evidence from the book inform the reader that this invasion wasn’t entirely peaceful? Find at least 3 examples. shooting, the lawn mover,They where getting chased

chapter 6

Chapter Six

Must Do Questions:
What is the first sign that something is wrong at Ellie’s house?
the dogs were dead
Who is the first person to really realise what is happening?
Ellie
What is Ellie’s reaction to this person’s caution? Why do you think she reacts this way? she decided to follow homer because she knew what his reaction would turn out ot be.
How is the pace in this chapter different from the chapters before?
This one is really fast because everything went slow until the dogs were found dead and everyone who was in wirrawee was missing If you were in this situation, would you test the radio or not? Give reasons for your thinking
Yes to see if the radio station would work to get a news report of what was happening.Do you think the way the teenagers reacted to the realisation that Australia may have been invaded or at war was realistic? Why/why not Yes because they were worried so they set everything up incase they were gone for a while and they were worried
What possible reasons exist that could spark war or invasion of Australia? Someone didn't like the people or something.

chapter 5

Chapter Five
Must Do Questions:
What does Corrie’s choice in career say about her character?
she wanted to do nursing which means she likes helping people. The group’s ability to avoid arguing with each other is rare- do you think that there would have been more drama if you and your friends went bush for a week? No my friends basically never stop arguing or debating.
Why do you think Ellie and Lee feel uneasy just before their return to Wirrawee from the Bush? they feel uneasy because of the fires they couldn't figure them out
What do you predict will await the group back home, why do you think this? Something bad like war because the title is tomorrow when the war began and she felt uneasy about the fires.

chapter4

Chapter Four

Must Do Questions:
Do you think the way they handled the snake incident was appropriate?
What could they have done differently? no it scared homer and he freaked
out on it and went crazy.
Ellie claims that ‘Hell’ is only a label and that people label things all the time,
often ignoring or overlooking certain labelled places or things. She then comes
to the conclusion that ‘Hell was people’. Is she right? What’s your opinion, on
labelling and Hell? yes
because people are the cause of most things.
What was especially peculiar about the planes that flew over Hell?
‘Their ------, their ------, their----- frightened me.’ Do these characteristics have
any significance? that the lights were off which they were usually on so it was
strange and "their noise their speed their darkness frightened me.
Corrie and Kevin are the only couple in the group, but the trip was bound to bring
friends closer. So why does Homer’s interest in Fi seem so odd to Ellie?- he only admired
women in magazines real women he treated like dirtbags.
Fi brushes off the planes coming back from Commemoration Day. Why do you think the planes were
flying over Wirrawee? something had happened in wirrawee.
Robyn claims there were dozens and dozens of planes flying over them.
What is Lee’s response? Is his suggestion reasonable? it's probably the start of world war three we've
been invaded and don't even know

      chapter 3

      Chapter Three

      Must Do Questions:
Why does Robyn think they are the only people ever to have gone into Hell?
because they think maybe only them and hermit have seen it
Why do you think the valley is called Hell? It was called hell
because hermit lived there and it was like a prison it was really hard to get in and out.
Why must the teenagers seem like visitors from hell to the wild things living in the clearing? How is this ironic?
because hermit lived there and they thought they were the only other people to visit
What picture of Kevin do we get in this chapter?
          he's really nice,not judgemental
What does Ellie liken Fi to? Do you think this is a fair assessment of her character. Use examples from the text
          to support your thinking
exotic butterfly because it said "i'd never met anyone who hadn't had two minute noodles before".
At times Ellie switches her narration from retelling the story to commenting about her life in the present
Comparing things to what has happened in the past and to make it more interesting and so you get to know
          Ellie a bit more
          - why do you think the author has chosen to write in this style?
          to make it more interesting

          chapter 2

          Must Do Questions:
How did the group of teenagers ascend Tailors Stitch?
          in a land rover
What are the two special events happening the day after
cocktail shaker ride, commemoration day = wirrawee show
the teenagers leave for the bush?
How many days were they planning on staying? How much food
do you think is reasonable to bring, split between 7 teenagers?
5 days and Easy food that can be carried in bags when going into
the bush and that is not to heavy like potato flakes
Who is the Hermit and what is he supposed to have done?
              old ex murderer
and killed his wife and baby
Do you think the Hermit will be significant to this story? Why/Why not?
no because he's an ex murderer
Is their decent down Satan’s Steps into Hell dangerous?
Discuss what are the dangers, how could they have made it safer,
                what would you have done?
the ground was hard and dry and they couldn't find water
                  Predict what the bridge signifies
                  They must think Hermit Made
the bridge because it was beautifully made which must've meant he had
been there for a long time.
